Getting started
Everything you need to go from “never heard of Listd” to your first deal.
What Listd is
Listd is a peer-to-peer local marketplace. Neighbors use it to buy, sell, rent, and trade practical things — tools, trailers, vehicles, shop space, housing, and everyday deals.
Listd is a venue, not a party to your transaction. We give you the listing, the messaging, the verification tools, and (for rentals) the payment rails. The deal itself is between you and the other person.
New here? The How it works page is a two-minute overview, and Why Listd explains what makes it different from the big classifieds sites.
Creating an account
- Go to /signup and enter your email address.
- We email you a magic link — there is no password to remember. Click it and you’re in. If it doesn’t arrive within a minute, check your spam folder.
- Finish onboarding: add a display name, your general location, and a photo if you want one.
Already signed up? Sign in any time at /login. You can review your profile, badges, and notification settings at /account.
Verifying your ID
ID verification is handled by Stripe Identity in document + selfie mode. You photograph a government ID and take a selfie; Stripe checks that they match. Start it at /verify-id.
Listd never sees or stores your ID images. They go directly to Stripe. We only receive the pass/fail result, which turns on your verified badge.
- Verification is optional for browsing and messaging.
- It is required to rent items out, since money moves and we need to know who is on the other end.
- Verified profiles get a trust badge and rank higher in search. See Safety for how trust tiers work.

Messaging a seller
Tap Message seller on any listing to open a private thread. Every conversation lives at /messages. Your email address is never shown to other members.
Keep the conversation on Listd until you’ve agreed on a price and a place to meet. If someone immediately pushes you to move to another app, treat that as a warning sign and report it.
Meeting up safely
Five habits prevent almost every marketplace problem:
- Meet in public, in daylight. We curate Safe Exchange Zones — usually police-station or municipal lots with cameras.
- Bring someone with you for anything large or expensive.
- Inspect before you pay. Test it, start it, plug it in.
- Never send money in advance to hold an item for an in-person sale.
- Trust your gut. If it feels wrong, walk away. No deal is worth it.
