Listd Guarantee

Rent with confidence.

Every rental booked through Listd is backed by the Listd Guarantee — a discretionary goodwill fund that helps make renters and owners whole when something goes unexpectedly wrong.

🛡

Accidental damage

If a rented item is accidentally damaged during the rental window, the Guarantee may cover repair or replacement costs up to $500 per claim.

📸

Photo documentation

Claims are supported by inspection photos taken before and after the rental. The clearer the evidence, the faster the review.

💳

Deposit protection

Every rental holds a refundable security deposit at booking. The Guarantee supplements the deposit when costs exceed it.

Fast review

Our team aims to reach a decision within 3 business days of a complete claim submission.

Coverage limits

  • $500 per claim — maximum discretionary payout from the Guarantee fund per incident.
  • $1,500 per owner per year — aggregate cap across all claims filed against a single owner's listings in a rolling 12-month period.
  • Claims must be filed within 72 hours of the rental window closing.

What isn't covered

  • Normal wear and tear
  • Pre-existing damage not documented at check-in
  • Theft or unexplained disappearance without a police report
  • Motor vehicles, trailers, or motorized watercraft
  • Items rented outside of Listd's payment system
  • Intentional damage or fraud
  • Lost income or consequential damages

How the refundable deposit is set

The deposit is a flat amount held per booking — not a daily charge. It is fully refunded if the item comes back the way it left. Listd suggests a smart default when an owner lists, and the owner can fine-tune within sensible limits.

  • Suggested deposit = the larger of 50% of the item's replacement value or 3× the daily rate, with a floor of $25.
  • Hard minimum: $25 once a deposit is enabled. Anything below that doesn't meaningfully cover damage.
  • Hard maximum: $500 per booking. Higher-value items rely on the Guarantee fund and (soon) Listd Protect rather than oversized deposits.
  • Flat per booking. The same deposit is held whether the rental is one day or seven.

How to file a claim

  1. 1

    Document the damage

Take timestamped photos immediately. Open the rental on your dashboard and tap "File a damage claim."

  2. 2

    Submit within 72 hours

Describe what happened, upload photos, and include a repair quote if you have one. Both parties will be notified.

  3. 3

    We review

Our team reviews the documentation, considers both sides, and reaches a decision within 3 business days.

  4. 4

    Resolution

If approved, the Guarantee fund covers the shortfall above the deposit, up to $500. Payouts are processed within 5 business days of approval.

What if the renter doesn’t return the item?

Theft is a different beast than damage and we handle it separately. Every Listd rental sits behind real ID verification (Stripe Identity) and a signed agreement, so we always know who has the item.

  1. 1
End date passes — owner files a non-return claim. On the rental page, after the return window closes, the owner can flag the rental as not returned. Listd is notified the instant it’s filed.
  2. 2
Renter’s account locks immediately. The renter can no longer book new rentals across Listd until the claim is resolved.
  3. 3
Deposit auto-capture. The full security deposit held at booking captures to the owner.
  4. 4
Rental Non-Return Evidence Packet. If the item isn’t returned within 72 hours of the claim, Listd generates a documented packet the owner can download: the signed rental agreement, all in-app communication, the inspection photos, and the case reference number. The owner takes it to their local police to file a report. Listd releases the renter’s full identity information directly to law enforcement via verified agency channel or legal process — not to the owner — to protect everyone’s safety.
  5. 5
Permanent flag. Confirmed non-returns leave a permanent mark on the renter’s Listd account that future Listd staff can see. Theft is one strike.

The Guarantee fund is for accidental damage. For non-return / theft, the deposit + police report is the recovery path — not the discretionary fund.
