Damage protection plan

Listd Protect.

Optional damage protection at checkout. Built for renters who want extra peace of mind, and owners who want to know a busted item gets made right faster.

Listd Protect is a damage protection plan, not insurance. Listd LLC is not a licensed insurance provider.

Basic
Free
Included on every rental. Covers up to $100 of accidental damage when the standard Listd dispute process is followed.
Standard
Default
$3 or 5%
Default-selected at checkout. Covers up to $500 of accidental damage per rental.
Premium
$8 or 10%
For higher-value rentals. Covers up to $2,000 of accidental damage per rental.

What it covers

  • Accidental damage during the rental window. Photo evidence at pickup and return required.
  • Faster owner payouts when a claim is approved — Listd covers the gap while the dispute is reviewed.
  • Renter-side liability cap so an honest mistake doesn't become a financial disaster.

What it does not cover

  • Intentional damage, theft, or fraud.
  • Wear and tear, pre-existing damage, or anything not documented in the pickup inspection photos.
  • Motor vehicles requiring registration, firearms, or any item prohibited from rental under Listd's Terms §7.
  • Loss of profit, business interruption, or any consequential damages.

Deposits + Protect, how they fit

Every Listd rental holds a refundable security deposit at booking. The deposit is a flat amount per booking, not a daily charge, and is released back to the renter if the item comes back the way it left. Listd Protect sits on top of the deposit when damage exceeds it.

  • Suggested deposit: the larger of 50% of the item's replacement value or 3× the daily rate, with a $25 floor.
  • Range: $25 minimum, $500 maximum per booking. Owners can fine-tune inside those guardrails.
  • Order of recovery: damage costs draw from the deposit first; Protect (or the Listd Guarantee) covers the shortfall up to the selected tier cap.

How it works

  1. 1. Pick a tier at checkout. Standard is selected by default; you can change it before paying.
  2. 2. Inspect at pickup. Both renter and owner take photos before the rental window starts.
  3. 3. Inspect at return. New photos compared against pickup photos.
  4. 4. File a claim within 72 hours of return through the rental detail page.
  5. 5. Listd reviews and decides. We aim to issue a written decision within 5 business days. Complex claims (third-party repair quotes, police reports) may take longer. Approved claims pay out up to the tier cap.

What Listd Protect will not cover

Listd Protect exists to cover honest accidents during a real rental. The plan was not built to underwrite bad-faith activity, and the following are categorically not eligible for payout. This list is not exhaustive — Listd LLC reserves the right to deny any claim it believes to be fraudulent or outside the spirit of the program.

  • Self-rentals or related-party rentals. Claims where the renter and owner are the same person, share a payment method, household, or device fingerprint, or are otherwise the same economic unit are denied automatically.
  • Pre-existing damage. Damage visible in pickup-time inspection photos, or damage to items the owner cannot prove was undamaged before the rental window started.
  • Normal wear and tear. Cosmetic scuffs, blade dulling, consumable depletion (fuel, oil, string), and any condition consistent with the item being used as intended.
  • Missing inspection photos. Premium-tier claims above $500 require time-stamped before and after photos taken through the rental detail page. No photos, no Premium payout.
  • Inflated or unverified repair quotes. Quotes that exceed the fair market value of comparable used items, or quotes from a party related to the owner, are not honored at face value. Listd may obtain its own quote.
  • Items used outside the listing description. If the owner listed an item for one purpose and damage occurred during a different use the owner authorized, the owner — not the renter — owns that loss.
  • Theft or no-return. Items the renter fails to return are handled through the no-return protocol and law enforcement, not Listd Protect.
  • Claims filed after the 72-hour window. File within 72 hours of the scheduled return time. Late claims lose photo and chain-of-custody integrity and are denied.
  • Owners with fewer than 5 completed rentals, on any Premium claim, pay out at the Standard $500 cap rather than the Premium $2,000 cap. The Premium ceiling unlocks after an owner has built a clean rental history on the platform.

Trying to game this plan is not worth it. Every claim is reviewed by a human, every payout is logged to a public-to-Listd ledger, and bad-faith claims are referred to the relevant authorities and permanently ban the account.

Important
